The University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) marked another milestone in student civic engagement as SL Josephine Alexandra V. De Castro, ESA, a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Psychology student, served as a member of the International Service Team at the 33rd Asia-Pacific Regional (APR) Scout Jamboree, held from December 14 to 21, 2025, at Camp Zambales in Botolan, Zambales.

De Castro was among the international service team members who supported one of the largest scouting gatherings in the region, which officially opened on December 15 and drew more than 23,000 participants from Asia-Pacific countries and beyond. According to a report by the Daily Tribune, the opening ceremony was attended by nearly 23,867 delegates, highlighting the scale and international significance of the event. The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) reported the participation of approximately 19,150 scouts, alongside thousands of unit leaders, contingent management teams, adult supporters, international service team members, and delegates from 19 countries.

Held under the theme “Be Prepared: Scouts for Peace and Sustainable Development,” the jamboree emphasized leadership development, cultural exchange, environmental awareness, and community service. As noted in the Daily Tribune, the event underscored the vital role of scouting in shaping responsible and service-oriented youth, in line with the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

As part of the International Service Team, De Castro contributed to the coordination and implementation of jamboree activities, helping ensure a safe, inclusive, and meaningful experience for scouts from diverse cultural backgrounds. Her participation reflects UBLC’s commitment to developing globally minded and socially responsible students who actively engage in international cooperation and youth-led civic initiatives.

Camp Chief and Zambales Governor Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr., as cited by the Daily Tribune, emphasized that participation in the jamboree provides young people with lasting experiences that prepare them for future challenges and leadership roles. BSP officials likewise noted that the event supports the national vision of Kabataan para sa Bagong Pilipinas, strengthening youth involvement in peacebuilding, sustainable development, and active citizenship.

Through De Castro’s involvement, the University of Batangas Lipa City reinforces its role in empowering students to take part in international civic engagements, fostering leadership, social responsibility, and cross-cultural understanding – core values that advance both institutional goals and global development agendas.
