The University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) gathered hundreds of National Service Training Program (NSTP) students on December 6, 2025, for a comprehensive seminar on drug and substance abuse prevention and control at the UBLC Multipurpose Hall. The program opened with remarks from Dr. Precious Naj Alcantara, Program Head of the General Education Department, who underscored the timeliness and relevance of the initiative. She emphasized that discussing drug prevention is essential in today’s social climate and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening this advocacy especially among the youth and the UBian community.
The seminar featured Assistant Provincial Officer, IO III Reynaldo D. Benzon of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Batangas Provincial Office, who served as the guest speaker. Benzon discussed the current landscape of illegal drugs in the Philippines, highlighting the realities communities face, the necessity of early intervention, and the crucial role young people play in promoting safe and secure environments.
Throughout the session, NSTP students were encouraged to build their sense of civic duty by staying informed, vigilant, and engaged in community efforts. The seminar emphasized that awareness and education remain among the most effective measures in fostering drug-free communities and empowering students to contribute meaningfully to national development.
By equipping students with essential knowledge and promoting responsible citizenship, the initiative strengthens UBLC’s commitment to quality education and collaborative community engagement. In alignment with UNSDG 4 (Quality Education) and UNSDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the University continues to work closely with government agencies and partners to advance programs that support student well-being, safety, and sustainable societal progress.
