Lipa City, Batangas – October 3, 2025. Jeric Botero, a fourth-year BS Hospitality Management student from the College of Management and Tourism of the University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC), has earned the Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP) designation awarded by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) through its educational arm, the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI).
The CGSP credential is an internationally recognized certification that honors individuals who demonstrate excellence and professionalism in delivering guest service. To earn the title, candidates must complete the Guest Service Gold® training program and pass a comprehensive examination assessing their knowledge of hospitality service principles, problem-solving, and customer care.
For Jeric, the motivation to pursue this certification stemmed from his desire to formally validate his knowledge and skills in the service industry. He shared that earning the CGSP title provides personal fulfillment and a sense of job security, as it assures employers of his professional competence and commitment to quality service.
In preparation for the certification, Jeric actively participated in interactive learning sessions, including quiz bees and group activities designed to simulate real-life guest service situations. He noted that the exam itself served more as an opportunity to showcase what participants had learned throughout the workshop. “The activities were both informative and enjoyable,” Jeric said. “They helped me grow as a person and enhanced my confidence in handling different service scenarios.”
While he admitted that facing the uncertainty of the workshop was initially challenging, Jeric emphasized that stepping out of his comfort zone made the experience more rewarding. His perseverance throughout the training process reflects the values of adaptability and excellence that UBLC continues to cultivate among its students.
Highlighting the global significance of the certification, Jeric explained that the CGSP program reflects UBLC’s commitment to internationalization and global competitiveness in hospitality education. “The certification is recognized worldwide and sets a standard for service across the industry,” he said. “It proves that UBLC equips its students with the skills and knowledge that meet international benchmarks.”
As the largest hotel association in the United States, AHLA represents all sectors of the lodging industry – from major hotel chains to independent establishments. Its mission is to advance a vibrant and united hospitality sector through advocacy, education, and professional development, grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Jeric’s achievement demonstrates his dedication to his chosen field and brings pride to the University of Batangas Lipa community. It stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to producing globally competent graduates who embody service excellence and integrity.
Encouraging his peers, Jeric advised fellow UBLC students to take advantage of similar opportunities for professional growth. “To be recognized as a Certified Guest Service Professional is a great achievement in itself,” he said. “The CGSP title is permanent and globally acknowledged – earning it sets you apart in the industry.”
Jeric Botero’s accomplishment serves as an inspiration to aspiring hospitality professionals, reinforcing UBLC’s pursuit of excellence and leadership in shaping students who are ready to serve the world with passion and purpose.
