Lipa City, Batangas – September 15, 2025. The University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC), through the initiative of the UB Lipa Campus – College Red Cross Youth (RCY) Council in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross – Batangas Chapter, successfully held a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Caravan as an extension of the Swimming class program. The activity was mandatory for students under the BS Nursing (BSN 2A), BS Hospitality Management (HM 2A–2E), and BS Tourism Management (TM 2A–2B) programs, with a total of 210 participants actively joining the training.
The initiative aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and practical skills in emergency response and life-saving procedures, equipping them with vital techniques applicable in both health care and hospitality industries. Through the hands-on learning sessions, participants gained mastery of essential CPR procedures, developed confidence in responding during emergencies, and strengthened their preparedness in situations where immediate action could save lives.
The training was facilitated by Engr. Gian May Reyes-Castillo, a UBLC alumna of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering program, and Mr. Homer A. Castillo, EMT, both representing the Philippine Red Cross – Batangas Chapter. Their expertise guided students in acquiring technical skills, the discipline and presence of mind required in real-life scenarios.
In an interview, Ms. Alexandra De Castro, President of the UBLC Red Cross Youth (RCY), emphasized the importance of the activity in line with the organization’s mission. “This month of September we have accomplished and wrapped up two major activities of the Red Cross Youth Council: the Blood Donation Drive and this CPR Caravan. The objective is to save lives—that’s really the mission. And our vision is to save more lives. CPR is a vital skill that can be used while waiting for professional help, giving us the chance to save lives,” she said.
Looking ahead, Ms. De Castro shared that RCY will continue to spearhead initiatives on campus, including Psychological First Aid training and the Youth Volunteer Formation Course, the foundational training for becoming a bonafide Red Cross member. She also encouraged interested UBLC students and personnel to join the organization by filling out application forms available through their official Facebook page and staying tuned for upcoming programs.
The CPR Caravan equipped students with critical life-saving skills and underscored UBLC’s dedication to holistic education, fostering professional competence and a strong sense of social responsibility within its community.
