Lipa City, Batangas – September 14, 2025. Dr. Pastor R. Arguelles Jr., Director of the Research and Publications Office of the University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC), has been conferred the prestigious “Dr. Radhakrishnan Excellence Award 2025” as Excellent Researcher by the Edumatrix Foundation, in recognition of his valuable contribution to academics and research. The award was given on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day 2025.

The recognition celebrates Dr. Arguelles’s sustained commitment to advancing research and academic excellence throughout his extensive career in the academe. With more than a decade of active involvement in research, Dr. Arguelles has consistently contributed to innovation, collaboration, and mentorship in the field of information technology and computer science.

“I consider every recognition a blessing and a reminder of my purpose – to share knowledge and serve the academic community,” Dr. Arguelles shared in an interview. Reflecting on his journey, he emphasized that his achievements are the result of perseverance, collaboration, and faith. “When I came back to the academe, I only asked the Lord to place me in a community where I can serve. Everything that came after – awards and recognitions – are just added value to that calling,” he added.

While the Edumatrix Foundation is relatively new in the international academic scene, it has positioned itself as an emerging institution recognizing excellence in education and research worldwide. The Dr. Radhakrishnan Excellence Awards, named after Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a distinguished Indian philosopher and statesman, aim to honor educators and researchers who have made remarkable contributions to the advancement of learning and scholarship.

Dr. Arguelles’s recognition adds another milestone to the growing list of UBLC faculty achievements in the field of research and international engagement. Since assuming leadership at the Research and Publications Office, he has encouraged the UBLC community to pursue research collaborations, publish scholarly works, and engage in academic discourse that extends beyond national borders. His mentorship has also inspired young researchers to participate in conferences, develop innovative studies, and appreciate the transformative impact of research in society.

His career as an educator and researcher began in 2009, following years in the technology industry. Since 2015, he has been invited as keynote speaker in international conferences held in Indonesia and other parts of Asia, presenting on topics such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

“Every time I am invited to speak or share my work, I always treat it as a form of service. Recognition is only secondary,” he remarked. Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Arguelles added, “Looking back where I started, it began with an invitation from a friend to present my research study on cybersecurity. Unexpectedly, the panel and attendees included ambassadors and key officials of Indonesia who were interested in my study and invited me to discuss it further. That experience ignited my passion and interest in research.” His words reflect a philosophy rooted in humility, service, and the pursuit of knowledge for the greater good – principles that align with the University of Batangas’s mission of nurturing globally competent graduates and scholars.

In line with UBLC’s vision to strengthen research excellence and internationalization, Dr. Arguelles also advocates for the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence in research and publication. He notes that AI tools can help researchers organize, conceptualize, and streamline their manuscripts. However, he emphasizes that comprehension, reflection, and critical analysis remain essential components of scholarly work. “AI can assist in formatting and productivity, but originality and evidence-based research must remain at the core,” he explained.

Reflecting on his international exposure, he added, “Visiting the National University of Singapore, one of the most advanced and prestigious research universities in the world, I was amazed by their integration of AI in academics. They have already crafted guidelines for the responsible use of AI, even when it is not yet widely adopted, and we hope to replicate this effort in our community to extend the work and bring out the best through this tool.” By leveraging AI thoughtfully, UBLC equips its faculty and students to produce research that meets global standards while fostering innovation and scholarly rigor.

Through his latest achievement, Dr. Arguelles brings pride to the University of Batangas Lipa City and exemplifies the enduring spirit of educators who continue to inspire through research, dedication, and purpose-driven service. His recognition also reinforces the University’s ongoing internationalization efforts, which aim to build strong global linkages and promote scholarly collaboration beyond borders. Academicians like Dr. Arguelles serve as instruments in advancing this initiative – bridging local research excellence with global standards, fostering a culture of innovation that transcends geographic boundaries, and integrating technological advancements such as AI to further elevate the institution’s research impact.
