Lipa City, Batangas – September 17, 2025. The College of Education, Arts, and Sciences (CEAS) successfully concluded the CEAS Ideathon 2025, a startup-style pitching competition held on September 17, 2025, at the UBLC Tiered Hall. With the theme “AI-Powered Futures: Innovating Education, Arts, and Sciences for Tomorrow,” the event gathered 24 student teams to develop and pitch AI-driven solutions addressing real-world societal challenges.
The Ideathon has become a significant innovation platform in UBLC since its inception in December 2022, when it was first spearheaded by the Center for Business and Innovation (CBI). The pioneering event was designed to engage students from Senior High School to College in proposing solutions to pressing issues through teamwork and creativity. True to its innovation-driven purpose, the 2022 Ideathon provided ₱10,000 cash prizes and ₱50,000 seed funding to support the most viable projects. What began as a campus-wide brainstorming initiative to inspire creativity and entrepreneurship has since evolved into a discipline-focused, startup-style pitching competition that now harnesses Artificial Intelligence as a tool to address societal challenges.
The 2025 CEAS edition built upon this legacy by encouraging innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and future-ready skills. The one-day program featured lectures, mentoring sessions, and a pitching competition, equipping participants with exposure to innovation and entrepreneurship while sharpening their problem-solving, teamwork, and AI literacy.
After a day of rigorous ideation and presentation, four teams emerged as winners. Politeam introduced CredNewsPH, an AI-powered website that combats misinformation in political news by analyzing biases and providing fact-checked perspectives. SOLARI presented VERA (Virtual Emergency Response Assistant), a training platform for first responders and volunteers that enhances decision-making and equips users with psychological first-aid skills. COMMUNITEAM developed CareBot, an AI-powered mental health chatbot designed to provide accessible first-line support for individuals struggling with stress or anxiety. Meanwhile, RightsNow! proposed a Legal Kiosk, a physical or digital booth that provides on-demand assistance with legal documents and referrals, ensuring that underserved communities have access to legal support.
The program was made possible through the leadership of Dr. Minerva Apita-Chavez, CEAS Dean and Overall Chairman, together with the dedicated organizing committee composed of CEAS faculty members. Mentorship also played a vital role in the success of the event, as CEAS faculty and guest expert Dr. Muhammad Ali Fauzi from Universitas Brawijaya provided guidance to participants. Dr. Fauzi delivered an insightful lecture on the wide-ranging applications of Artificial Intelligence in fields such as education, healthcare, engineering, law, and entertainment. Afternoon consultations with faculty from the Psychology, Legal Management, and Education departments further sharpened the student projects, ensuring that the outputs combined both creativity and practical impact.
By integrating mentorship, collaboration, and the practical application of knowledge, CEAS Ideathon 2025 built on the pioneering efforts of the 2022 Ideathon spearheaded by CBI and showcased the University’s continued commitment to nurturing innovation and preparing students to thrive in a technology-driven future.
