UBLC High School dominates Division Schools Press Conference, advances to regionals

Students from the University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) High School Department emerged as winners at the 2025 Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), held on November 13–14, 2025, at The Mabini Academy in Lipa City, Batangas, earning multiple individual, group, and special awards, including qualifications for the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC).

The 2025 Division Schools Press Conference officially opened on November 13, gathering thousands of young and aspiring campus journalists from public and private schools across the Schools Division of Lipa City. Spanning two days, the event served as a competitive venue for students to demonstrate proficiency in news, feature, and editorial writing, photojournalism, broadcasting, and other campus journalism disciplines, while underscoring the Department of Education’s commitment to promoting responsible, ethical, and truth-driven journalism among the youth. The opening ceremony was graced by Hon. Mayor Eric B. Africa, Schools Division Superintendent Felizardo Bolaños, CID Chief Dr. Lorna R. Medrano, SGOD Chief Dr. Minerva Caraos, and AOV Leah Marie Monica K. Lumbres, together with education officials, school heads, and unit leaders.

UBLC High School students garnered distinctions in individual categories, led by Madison Mae M. Apuli of ABM 11-1 Juan Javier, who placed second in Sports Writing–English and qualified for the RSPC. Matthew Angelo D. Panganiban of Grade 7 Faith placed fifth in News Writing–Filipino, while Gian Azrael P. Latorre of Grade 10 Character and Jazee Saintlaine Nicole B. Estrada of HUMSS 11-1 Maria Kalaw Katigbak each placed fifth in Editorial Cartooning–English and Column Writing–Filipino, respectively.

In the group category, UBLC achieved a three-peat Overall Championship in Radio Broadcasting and Scriptwriting–Filipino, led by John Rayden L. Ramos, Amara Henedyn V. Manuel, Jamillah Caitlyn M. Arguelles, Ralph Lauren M. Dimaculangan, Amanda Cherie P. Alvarez, Jan Riley M. Dizon, and Alessandra Zarita C. Ceniza. The school also secured third Overall Champion honors in Radio Broadcasting and Scriptwriting–English through the team of Tristan Jacob M. Pedraza, Patricia Mae D. Manalo, Mikayla Darrah A. Dalangin, Jelou Avin C. Mauro, Yuan Miguel R. Abrenica, Christian Anthony T. Caraig, and Kim Shin Mira A. Andal.

Several students earned special awards, further strengthening UBLC’s regional representation. These included Second Best News Presenter for Amara Henedyn V. Manuel, Second Best Infomercial for Amanda Cherie P. Alvarez, Second Best Technical Specialist for Jan Riley M. Dizon, and Second Best Script for Alessandra Zarita C. Ceniza. Additional recognitions were awarded to Christian Anthony T. Caraig as Best Infomercial Champion, Patricia Mae D. Manalo as Second Best Anchor, Mikayla Darrah A. Dalangin as Third Best News Presenter, Yuan Miguel R. Abrenica as Third Best Technical Specialist, and Kim Shin Mira A. Andal as Third Best Script.

The strong performance of UBLC High School reflects the University of Batangas Lipa City’s sustained efforts in honing students’ talents and creativity through guided training and mentorship under the supervision of coaches Mr. Jerome P. De Los Reyes and Ms. Harlene Cyna V. Moraleda. Anchored on UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education, the initiative underscores UBLC’s commitment to developing competent, confident, and ethical communicators prepared to showcase excellence and represent the institution on higher, including national, platforms.
