The University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) marked a significant presence in the Lipa City Fiesta 2026 through its participation in the Grand Float Parade held on January 20, 2026, from SM City Lipa to Robinson’s Place Lipa. The University’s participation formed part of the city’s culminating activities in honor of its patron saint, San Sebastian, under the theme “San Sebastian: Gabay sa Pagkakaisa at Pananampalataya ng mga Lipeño.”

UBLC’s entry featured an enchanted forest-themed float that captivated spectators with its lush floral arrangements, cascading waterfalls, and whimsical nature-inspired details. Designed to evoke wonder and harmony with nature, the float was adorned with vibrant flowers, textured greenery, and flowing water features that created a serene yet visually striking scene. The concept symbolized growth, imagination, and renewal – values aligned with both the spirit of the Lipa City Fiesta and the university’s commitment to holistic education and community engagement.

Representing the university were Aemarc Wagan, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student, and Allysa Kimberly Virrey, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Accountancy student. Both embodied the enchanted forest narrative through a refined prince-and-princess concept. Wagan wore a striking blue ensemble highlighted by a gold-accented cape, conveying elegance and strength, while Virrey donned a red gown intricately embellished with floral details and gold gems, reflecting grace and regality. Their coordinated appearance complemented the overall theme, enhancing the visual storytelling of the float.

The UBLC float was crafted by Arko De JP Chua Creations, a renowned local creative team from Lemery, Batangas, led by Mr. JP Chua, an alumnus of the University of Batangas. Known in the couture and float design industry for his artistic vision and craftsmanship, Chua has spent many years producing award-winning floats for various festivals and competitions across Batangas Province. His body of work has earned multiple recognitions, solidifying his reputation as one of the province’s respected figures in float artistry and large-scale creative installations.

Prior to the parade, the University formally unveiled the official 80th Anniversary seal of the University of Batangas through its official social media platforms, drawing public interest and engagement from the UBLC community and the wider audience. The seal was meaningfully integrated into the float’s design, reflecting the University’s milestone celebration. As articulated in the anniversary narrative, “Woven from eighty years of legacy, the flowing ribbons of maroon and gold intertwine to tell a story of infinite dedication. As UB reaches greater heights in its 80th year, it proudly celebrates a past built on greatness and a future defined by excellence.” This integration underscored the University’s enduring journey of academic excellence, service, and institutional growth while honoring its rich heritage.

The Grand Float Parade is one of the major highlights of the Lipa City Fiesta, drawing inspiration from the Panagbenga Festival, also known as the Baguio Flower Festival. Panagbenga is a month-long celebration held every February, originally conceived as a tribute to Baguio City’s flowers and as a symbol of recovery following the 1990 Luzon earthquake. Similarly, Lipa City’s floral parade emphasizes resilience, creativity, and community pride through elaborate and flower-inspired float designs.

Lipa City Fiesta 2026 was celebrated from January 9 to January 20, 2026, featuring religious, cultural, and tourism-related activities that underscored the city’s identity and values. According to Lipa City Tourism Officer-in-Charge Ailene Acorda, the fiesta programs were carefully designed to promote cultural heritage and sports tourism while offering a meaningful celebration anchored in devotion to San Sebastian. “The activities reflect who we are as Lipeños – faith-driven, culturally rich, and united as one city,” Acorda shared during an interview with a local media.

The festivities culminated on January 20 with the Grand Float Parade in the morning, followed by a solemn Mass at San Sebastian Cathedral at 9:00 AM and the San Sebastian Procession in the afternoon. The celebration concluded with a concert and fireworks display at Plaza Independencia, reaffirming the city’s deep faith and strong sense of community.

Through its participation in the Grand Float Parade, the University of Batangas Lipa City demonstrated its support for local traditions, creative industries, and cultural celebrations. The enchanted forest float not only showcased artistic excellence and student representation but also reflected the University’s role as an active partner in fostering unity, faith, and cultural pride within the Lipa City community.

Moreover, the University’s involvement aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by celebrating and preserving local heritage; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration with the community and creative professionals. The integration of UB’s 80th Anniversary in the float further amplifies the University’s legacy of excellence and continuous contribution to education, culture, and community development.
