Lipa City, Batangas – September 18, 2025. The University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC), in partnership with the Pambansang Koalisyon ng Kababaihan sa Kanayunan (PKKK), successfully conducted a two-day seminar on Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Environmental Protection on September 17–18, 2025, at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the UB Lipa Campus. The event gathered student leaders, organization representatives, and community partners to strengthen awareness and preparedness on pressing environmental challenges.

The seminar opened on September 17 with UBLC High School and College Student Government officers, along with selected representatives from student organizations and college departments. On September 18, the focus shifted to community engagement with the participation of leaders and residents from Barangay Bulacnin, one of UBLC’s active community partners.

Resource speakers from PKKK, namely Ms. Mylene D. Hega, Ms. Alisandra Lei S. Escobar, and Ms. Arriane Akia I. Ocampo, delivered sessions on climate change impacts, community-based disaster risk reduction strategies, and environmental protection initiatives. They emphasized the importance of rural women’s voices in climate advocacy, drawing from PKKK’s decades-long work in championing rural women’s rights, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13: Climate Action and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, highlighting UBLC’s commitment to fostering a resilient, environmentally conscious community. Through the seminar, student leaders and local partners were encouraged to translate their learning into advocacy and action, becoming catalysts for sustainable change in their communities.

PKKK, a national coalition of over 300 rural women organizations, has been a strong advocate for environmental justice, rural women empowerment, and grassroots participation in development. By providing expert speakers and support for the seminar, PKKK reinforced its mission of empowering communities to face the challenges of climate change and disaster risks.

UBLC, through its Community Extension Services (CES), organized the event as part of its continuing efforts to bridge education and community empowerment. The collaboration reflects UBLC’s vision of holistic development—equipping student leaders and partner communities with knowledge, skills, and values necessary to safeguard the environment and promote sustainable futures.
