Pasig City – August 24, 2025. The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) Marketing Management students of the University of Batangas Lipa City proudly represented the institution in the prestigious Philippine Junior Marketing Association’s (PJMA) Annual Marketing Competition (ANMAC) 2025: Into the Supply Chain Continuum.

The Philippine Junior Marketing Association (PJMA), the official youth affiliate of the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA), empowers business students nationwide as the national alliance for Junior Marketing Associations (JMAs). With over 300 schools and 50,000 active members, PJMA has long been at the forefront of connecting student leaders with industry professionals through national conferences, intercollegiate engagements, and brand collaborations. Each year, PJMA stages the ANMAC as part of its CSR advocacy, the JUAN Movement, which provides mentorship, applied learning opportunities, and platforms for students to create impactful campaigns aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year’s ANMAC focused on responsible sourcing and its role in promoting environmental stewardship and supply chain transparency. Anchored in the JUAN Movement’s Project ECO, the competition encouraged young Filipino marketers to design eco-conscious initiatives that address climate challenges and inspire sustainable behavior among both businesses and consumers.

Representing UBLC was Team UB Barako Builders, composed of Paul Jenson Sandoval, Tricia Sapin, Jaydhie Llanto, Airish Suelto, and Airos Borillo, all second-year BSBA Marketing Management students, under the mentorship of Mrs. Maria Cristina Daluz-Jamandron. The team submitted their pitch deck presentation on August 17, 2025, and advanced to the on-site pitch presentation held on August 24, 2025, at One San Miguel Avenue (OSMA), Ortigas Center, Pasig.

Their project, “Leaf of Faith: Bringing the Life Back to the Earth,” revolutionizes sustainability by transforming fallen Batangas coffee leaves into biodegradable paper tissue. The initiative seeks to reduce waste, air pollution, and deforestation while creating additional livelihood opportunities for local coffee farmers. With a market valued at ₱15–20 billion annually and growing at 5–7 percent due to heightened hygiene awareness, the tissue industry reflects increasing consumer interest in eco-friendly and zero-waste products. Positioning coffee leaves as the foundation of a closed-loop, zero-waste system, the project establishes sustainability as a competitive edge that fosters consumer trust, loyalty, and long-term market leadership.

By sourcing raw materials locally and reimagining them into an ecological alternative, the project emerges as the first in the Philippines to produce paper tissue from coffee leaves. The team envisions its advocacy reaching communities through social media campaigns, eco-partnerships, and livelihood programs while highlighting measurable environmental and social impact. In doing so, they bridge innovation, sustainability, and ethical marketing into a powerful solution that not only supports the environment but also uplifts local communities.

Through their participation, Team UB Barako Builders demonstrates the University’s unwavering commitment to producing industry-ready students who are capable of generating innovative and socially responsible solutions that contribute meaningfully to both business and community.
