Ms. Maria Lea S. Delfin, faculty member of the University of Batangas Lipa City (UBLC) College of Criminal Justice Education, was honored as the Most Outstanding Promoter of Sports for Social Change at the International Eminence Awards 2025, organized by the International Association of Physical Education and Sports (IAPES), Inc., on November 29, 2025, in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The award recognizes educators and professionals who leverage sports to drive positive societal impact, highlighting Ms. Delfin’s dedication to using physical education as a platform for character building, discipline, and social inclusion. This accolade reflects her personal and professional achievements and the university’s commitment to holistic, values-driven education.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition. It affirms my belief that sports extend beyond physical excellence as tools for character formation, inclusion, and hope,” Ms. Delfin said. “As a UBLC faculty member, this award reinforces my commitment to faith-guided education, lifelong learning, and meaningful service.”
Ms. Delfin’s initiatives highlight her innovative approach to sports as instruments for social change. Her Master’s capstone project involved designing and implementing a Taekwondo training plan at the DSWD Regional Haven in Rosario, Batangas, utilizing structured martial arts sessions to foster discipline, emotional regulation, self-confidence, and social inclusion among participants. Complemented by inclusive sports programs and institutional partnerships, her work demonstrates how sports can support rehabilitation, empowerment, and community development.
The International Association of Physical Education and Sports (IAPES), Inc., which organized the awards, is committed to promoting excellence in physical education and sports, offering professional development, research, and training opportunities for educators and organizations. Its mission emphasizes harnessing sports to inspire positive social change, improve the well-being of professionals, and foster ethical leadership in the wider community.
