The University of Batangas Distance Education (UBDE) launched its flagship community extension program, \u201cProject Parents\u2019 SEEDS: Skills for E-Commerce, Entrepreneurship, and Digital Success,\u201d on January 25, 2025, at the H205 Computer Laboratory, H Building, University of Batangas, Batangas City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative aimed to equip selected parents from Brgy. Tinga Labak, Batangas City with essential knowledge and practical skills in digital entrepreneurship under the theme \u201cSEEDS 1.0 \u2013 Exploring the Digital Marketplace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project gathered 20 participants who received hands-on training on how to navigate the digital marketplace, build online stores, and promote products through effective digital marketing. UBDE organized this activity as part of its continuing commitment to community engagement and corporate social responsibility, while also expanding awareness of its distance education programs and their relevance in today\u2019s digital-driven economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event opened with a warm welcome from Mr. John Rey Banlasan, UBDE External Programs Coordinator, who emphasized how mastering e-commerce can empower parents to create sustainable income opportunities. Dr. Carl Ivan B. Villanueva, UBDE Director, followed with an inspiring message highlighting UBDE\u2019s mission to foster digital literacy and economic growth within local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The training sessions featured Mrs. Divina Manalo Casao, MAEd, MIS, who delivered two key lectures: \u201cUnderstanding E-Commerce\u201d<\/em> and \u201cDigital Marketing Basics.\u201d<\/em> Participants created mock online stores, practiced digital marketing techniques, and designed social media campaigns, translating theory into action. Mr. Ethan Jon Joshua B. Ramos, UBDE Faculty Member, facilitated the sessions, ensuring a smooth flow of activities, while Ms. Charlene Mae G. Ilagan, UBDE Graphic Artist, and the rest of the UBDE team assisted participants with technical tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To close the program, Dr. Amelita J. Driz, UBDE Academic Programs and ILM Development Head, commended the participants\u2019 enthusiasm and encouraged them to apply their new skills to real-world ventures. Certificates were awarded to recognize their active participation and dedication throughout the training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The success of SEEDS 1.0 marks the beginning of a continuing series of digital empowerment programs under UBDE\u2019s Community Extension Services.
