The University of Batangas (UB) students, Yani V. Cueto, Grade 2 \u2013 Integrity from the Grade School Department and Lady Jillian R. Chavez, a Grade 11 student from UB Senior High School (SHS), earned Silver and Bronze awards, respectively, at the Fermat Mathematical Olympiad (FMO) National Round 2025, held on August 24 and 31, 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite training for just less than a month, Tr. Mary Rose J. Guinhawa, Grade II Adviser and a Mathematics Teacher, said that Cueto showed remarkable performance during the preparation. \u201cShe\u2019s both eager to learn and is persistent in solving the most complex problems,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tr. Guinhawa also highlighted that Cueto\u2019s achievement reflects UB\u2019s dedication to providing quality education. \u201cIt reinforces our commitment to nurturing young minds with strong analytical and problem-solving skills,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Chavez, from Grade 11 \u2013 Braun of UB SHS, has been joining international math and science competitions since Grade 8. A self-taught learner, she watches educational videos and solves advanced mathematical problems independently to enhance her skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Chavez, her Bronze award serves as a meaningful reminder: \u201cI always tell myself that I don\u2019t have to be the best \u2013 I just have to give my best and leave the rest to God,\u201d she said, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, faith, and taking small steps toward growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looking ahead, Cueto is set to participate in the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO) and the Eye Level Math Olympiad this school year. Meanwhile, Chavez recently competed in the Philippine International Mathematical and Science Olympiad (PIMSO) and is awaiting the results.
