University of Batangas (UB) Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSECE) students triumphed at the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) Batangas Student’s Summit 2025 Provincial Academic Competition, held at De La Salle Lipa, Lipa City, Batangas on October 4, 2025.
The team’s victories began in the ECE Math Olympiad, where Keziah Charis E. Andal, Edward Matthew C. Cara, and Jethro A. Pascua emerged as Champions. Dr. Henry I. Cabatay and Engr. Gilbert Mendoza coached the winning team. Following this, the team of James Daniel Valencia, Marc Aaron R. Gonzales, and Aeron Clyde T. Cabaccang won the Championship at the Elite Electronics Showdown. Dr. Framces Thea Z. De Mesa and Engr. Kyla Mharee V. Guinhawa coached them.
According to Team Leader Mr. Valencia, “flexibility” led them to victory. “It was not just about individual knowledge; it was the synergy we had as a team that set us apart and kept us focused on winning,” the team stated.
The College of Engineering (CENG) secured several other awards. In the CommQuest 2025 competition, the team of Eric Andrei T. Plata, Juanico Daren C. Macatangay, and Lorenzo Alain E. Beredo achieved 1st Runner-Up, coached by Engr. Pablo B. Asi and Engr. Guinhawa.
In the Interscholastic Quiz Show, Jefrey M. Geroleo, Erich N. Pagkaliwagan, James Daniel M. Valencia, Marc Aaron R. Gonzales, Eric Andrei T. Plata, and Juanico Daren C. Macatangay also won 1st Runner-Up, coached by Dr. De Mesa and Engr. Guinhawa.
Additionally, several students earned 1st Runner-Up in their respective categories: Erich N. Pagkaliwagan for Spur of the Moment (Impromptu Speech), Hanalei B. Datinguinoo for Pixel Perfect (Digital Arts Competition), and the team of Aliyah Nicole Brucal and Kayelle Aezel S. Ulzame for Vlog Connect (ECE Advocate Challenge). Meanwhile, Seanne Wenjoie P. Querubin achieved the 2nd Runner-Up spot in the PiECE of Mind (Essay Writing Contest).
“These achievements truly reflect our motto, ‘One Profession, One Organization, One Family’,” said Engr. Guinhawa, highlighting the importance of camaraderie over the awards. She added, “In UB, we do not just compete to win – we compete to grow, to honor our craft, and to lift each other higher.”
“Seeing our students excel in both academic and creative arenas fills me with pride and joy. It’s a reflection of their dedication, passion, and the collective guidance of our committed faculty mentors, headed by our dean, Dr. Henry I. Cabatay,” shared Engr. Asi. He also described this victory as a stepping stone for UB BSECE onto the national stage.
