The University of Batangas (UB) College of Business, Accountancy, and Hospitality Management (CBAHM) conducted an educational tour in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, from April 28 to 29, 2025, for third-year Tourism and Hospitality Management students. The initiative, guided by Professors Sofia April H. Hernandez and coordinated with CML Travel and Tours, aimed to combine experiential learning with cultural appreciation and environmental stewardship.
Over two days, students visited key destinations including the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, Mitra’s Ranch, Baker’s Hill, Baywalk Park, Plaza Cuartel, and the Palawan Cathedral. These visits allowed students to connect classroom lessons with real-world practices in hospitality, community engagement, and sustainable tourism.
The first day focused on wildlife conservation and heritage exploration. Students learned about environmental protection at the Palawan Wildlife Rescue Center, toured historical sites, and enjoyed a cultural immersion capped by a buffet dinner at Ka Joel’s Restaurant, which showcased Filipino cuisine and local hospitality.
On the second day, environmental advocate Mr. Rene Baylon led a seminar on eco-tourism, highlighting the importance of responsible tourism in preserving ecosystems. The day ended with a creative socialization activity, where students designed outfits using recycled materials, promoting teamwork, creativity, and camaraderie.
The tour concluded with an excursion to Honda Bay, including Luli Island, Starfish Island, and Cowrie Island, where students engaged in snorkeling and water activities, emphasizing marine conservation. Before returning, they visited local markets to support small vendors by purchasing handmade souvenirs and delicacies.
The educational tour successfully promoted experiential learning, cultural awareness, and responsible tourism, while aligning with Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
Through this experience, students gained practical knowledge, empathy, leadership skills, and a heightened sense of responsibility as future hospitality professionals. The tour reflects UB’s commitment to transformative, values-driven, and sustainable education, preparing students to make meaningful contributions in the tourism industry.
