On August 20, 2025, Sean Lawrence Hipolito, a second-year Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (BSPT) student at the University of Batangas (UB), earned gold and silver medals in the U53kg Men’s Novice and Junior divisions of the 2025 National Equipped Championships Powerlifting Competition at Robinsons Galleria.

In preparation for the event, Mr. Hipolito invested heavily in his training. From hiring a professional coach to acquiring essential equipment, his dedication stood out and fueled his drive to compete.

“When I stepped on the platform, I was completely locked in, but I couldn’t deny feeling nervous because it was my first-ever competition,” he admitted.

He added that aiming for a new national record in the U53kg Men’s Novice boosted his confidence.

“From that moment, I just wanted to showcase all the hard work I put into training, and prove to myself that I belong on that stage,” he said.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) ng Batangas honored Mr. Hipolito’s feat with a Certificate of Commendation, authored by Batangas City Councilor Aileen Arriola-Montalbo.

After the competition, he reflected on his journey: learning to trust his training, managing pressure, and discovering the true meaning of sportsmanship. His victory ignited a deeper passion to aim higher.

Although he only began powerlifting in early January 2025, his three years of prior experience in the fitness industry physically prepared him for the switch.

Looking ahead, Mr. Hipolito plans to compete beyond Batangas to proudly represent both the University of Batangas and the province on larger stages.
