UB hosts PAFTE IV-A 17th Annual Regional Seminar and Quiz Bee for Pre-Service Teachers

The University of Batangas (UB), through the College of Education (CEDU), hosted the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE) Region IV-A 17th Annual Regional Seminar and Quiz Bee for Pre-Service Teachers on January 27, 2026, at the UB Millennium Gymnasium. The event gathered future educators from 51 Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) across CALABARZON and aimed to promote excellence, global citizenship, and peace education.

Held under the theme Pre-Service Teachers as Catalysts for Global Citizenship and Peace Education, the program formally opened with the procession of officers and guests. The UB Chorale led the opening prayer and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.

UB President Lily Marlene J. Hernandez-Bohn delivered the welcome remarks, where she highlighted the vital role of pre-service teachers in advancing global citizenship and peace education. She also reaffirmed the University of Batangas’ commitment to quality teacher education and institutional collaboration. Dr. Amor L. Borbon, Chair of PAFTE IV-A and President of St. Bridget College, followed with the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among institutions in strengthening teacher preparation.

Dr. Marife S. Magpantay, Secretary of PAFTE IV-A, presented the statement of purpose and formally introduced the participating institutions, setting the tone for a day of meaningful discourse and academic competition.

Dr. Rogelio T. Galera Jr., Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region IV-A, delivered the keynote address. He underscored the transformative role of pre-service teachers in nation-building and peace advocacy, highlighting education as a powerful tool for social change.

Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, National President of the Association of Local Colleges and Universities and President of Taguig City University, led the morning session with an inspiring lecture titled Pre-Service Teachers as Catalysts for Global Citizenship and Peace Education. His discussion emphasized the responsibility of future educators to cultivate inclusive, ethical, and globally responsive learning environments.

The Quiz Bee served as the highlight of the event, showcasing the academic excellence and competitive spirit of pre-service teachers. Pamantasan ng San Pablo emerged as the first-place winner, followed by Rizal College of Taal in second place and FAITH Colleges in third place.

Dr. Ronald A. Gonzales, President of City College of Calamba and Vice Chair of PAFTE IV-A, concluded the program. He commended the participants, organizers, and partner institutions for their shared commitment to advancing quality teacher education.

The successful conduct of the 17th Annual Regional Seminar and Quiz Bee reaffirmed PAFTE IV-A’s dedication to strengthening teacher preparation while promoting global citizenship and peace education among future educators.

The event aligned strongly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by advancing teacher education and professional development; SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by promoting peace education and responsible citizenship; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration among higher education institutions, professional organizations, and government agencies. By integrating these global goals, the seminar reinforced the role of education as a catalyst for sustainable and peaceful communities.
