The University of Batangas (UB) Bachelor of Arts in Communication hosted “Beyond the Mic: Mastering Presence on Air and On Stage” on October 11, 2025, a specialized workshop designed to sharpen students’ confidence, stage presence, and delivery skills.
The morning sessions highlighted insights from Mr. Val Balita, former TV Patrol News Desk Anchor, and Ms. Mary Stephanie Landicho-Ona (also known as DJ Sky of 99.1 Spirit FM), who shared their professional journeys and expertise in the fields of television and radio broadcasting. The speakers also featured hands-on sessions and live demonstrations that allowed participants to apply professional techniques in real time. Students actively engaged in exercises that emphasized proper voice modulation, effective body language, and audience engagement – essential tools for commanding attention both on stage and behind the microphone.
The activity also highlighted the importance of preparation and self-awareness in communication. Through guided activities and expert feedback, participants learned how to manage stage anxiety, enhance their expressiveness, and deliver clear, impactful messages. These practical experiences transformed theoretical classroom lessons into real-world performance training.
By aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, Beyond the Mic reinforced UB’s commitment to providing relevant, skill-based learning opportunities. The event empowered students to pursue excellence in broadcasting, hosting, and performing while cultivating confidence and creativity – key ingredients for success in the communication industry.
Through Beyond the Mic, UB Communication students stepped closer to becoming articulate, poised, and professional communicators ready to take the stage – and the world – by storm.
