The University of Batangas Batangas City Campus Junior High School Dream Schoolers showcased their ingenuity and social awareness through groundbreaking research proposals on accessibility and sustainability at the 2024 SPARKS Competition: Inter-Senior High Student Research Proposal Elevator Pitching Competition, held at Batangas State University – Pablo Borbon Campus on November 9, 2024.
The team presented two inventive projects designed to address pressing global challenges. The first proposal, “See Through Sound: Design of a Sunglasses Device with Image-to-Speech Interface for the Visually Impaired,” introduces a transformative assistive technology that converts visual information into auditory cues. This device aims to empower visually impaired individuals by enhancing mobility, independence, and interaction with their surroundings.
The second project, “Development of an Integrated Waste-to-Energy System Using Paper and Banana Peel Briquettes for Rural Communities,” offers an innovative and sustainable approach to waste management and energy production. By converting organic waste into briquettes, the project promotes renewable energy use, supports local economic development, and helps reduce environmental pollution.
The students’ dedication and creativity earned them remarkable recognition at the competition: Second Place for Theme 2: Quality Education and Lifelong Learning (See Through Sound) and Third Place for Theme 5: Economic Growth and Prosperity (Waste-to-Energy System).
The UBBC JHS Dream Schoolers expressed heartfelt gratitude to their Research Coach, Mrs. Ann Rovic P. Casao, for her invaluable guidance, encouragement, and mentorship throughout their research journey.
Their success highlights the University of Batangas’ enduring commitment to cultivating innovation, critical thinking, and social responsibility among its students. These young researchers exemplify how creativity and purpose-driven education can drive meaningful solutions to real-world challenges.
