The University of Batangas (UB) celebrated United Nations Day on October 24, 2023, at the UB Millennium Gymnasium, gathering over a thousand students to promote global unity, peace, and cultural diversity.

With the theme “Equality, Freedom, and Justice for All,” the event was organized by the International Student Services Office (ISSO) in partnership with the Intercultural Students Association (ISA) and the Political Science Circle (PSC). A total of 1,112 students enrolled in Social Science subjects participated as part of their performance task activity.

The celebration opened with a message from University President Dr. Lily Marlene Hernandez-Bohn, who emphasized the importance of international cooperation and mutual respect among nations. One of the main highlights was the Parade of Nations, where students proudly showcased traditional attire representing different cultures and countries.

The program also featured educational seminars and country presentations from UB’s international students. Aica Jannie Leong from Brunei Darussalam (Asia) shared insights on her country’s unique culture; Martin Mabior Ngor from South Sudan (Africa) discussed the UN’s role during his nation’s political conflict; and Lara Backer Canova, an exchange student from Italy (Europe), spoke about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) being implemented in her country.

According to organizers, the event successfully fostered unity, respect, and global awareness among students and faculty. In recognition of its impact, the ISSO recommended that the celebration be held annually to continue promoting cultural understanding and international friendship within the university.
