The Guild of Aspiring Psychologists (GAPsy), composed of 4th-year psychology students from the University of Batangas Lipa Campus (UBLC), conducted a seminar titled “Breaking the Silence: Empowering Voices Against Abuse and Creating a Psychologically Safe Space,” Nov. 11.
The seminar featured two guest speakers who provided both psychological and legal perspectives to the participating youth.
The core of the seminar featured two expert presentations designed to arm the youth with knowledge from both psychological and legal standpoints. First, Mr. Renz Dave Albay, RPsy, took the floor and led the audience through the “Spectrum of Abuse: Safeguarding the Youth Through Entering the Mindful World.” Mr. Albay offered valuable insights into the psychological aspects of abuse, emphasizing how young individuals can recognize different forms of harm and protect their mental well-being.
Following him, Ms. Mariane Fe Orense, J.D. addressed the audience on the topic “Knowing Thy Rights: A Practical Guide to Becoming a Wiser Version of Ourselves.” Ms. Orense effectively unraveled the crucial legal aspects of abuse, ensuring participants were equipped with practical information on their rights and how to navigate the justice system.
The interactive sessions and open forums strengthened participant engagement, ensuring that attendees left with enlightened minds and a better understanding of their rights.
The event, a part of the students’ Community Extension Program, was held at the UBLC Building C Multi-purpose Hall in collaboration with the Community Extension Services and Barangay Lumbang, aimed to raise awareness about different forms of abuse and encourage the youth to advocate for their rights and psychological safety.
